For ammy drammy music buffs everywhere there's a myriad of musicals out there waiting
for you to dive into. Consider all aspects of production very carefully. Study your audience and the
members of your company and don't let personal preferences enter into it, well
that's in the perfect world! Every producer has a desire from somewhere
deep down, shall we say a gut feeling, about a show they would just love to
produce and one day, undoubtedly, they will make it happen.
When they do it will be in a way that has an individual stamp on it.
That's why no matter how many times you go to see a particular musical it will
always be different. " My Fair Lady" is a favourite of mine and each time I've
seen it I can appreciate the different interpretations and never get bored, well
not yet!. There's always a first time!
Lerner and Loewe have wonderful lilting tunes in
all of their musicals. My Fair Lady,
Brigadoon, Camelot, Gigi, they all have beautifully sentimental and saucy laugh
a minute songs, so you don't know whether to laugh or cry! They encompass the world
and there's enough scope for ammydrammy companies, of any size in any country, to
produce one of their shows (picture

Rogers and Hammerstein were masters of their
craft and have written the most marvellous songs. Musicals such as South
Pacific, Oklahoma, Carousel, The King and I and of course the musical to beat
all musicals ( a matter of opinion) The Sound of Music, stand the test of time.
They go on and on attracting audiences the world over. You are guaranteed a box
office hit with any Rogers and Hammerstein Musical.
Particular favourites are the Gilbert and
Sullivan Operettas. Anybody performing in one is absolutely sure to have a
great time. There's lots of good chorus work and fantastic characters. The stories are predictable
with mistaken identities, orphans and magic potions but despite this, or indeed
because of this, everyone
involved ( including the audience) will have a truly great time! Visit the
Gilbert and Sullivan page for more information.
The Viennese operettas, such as Die
Fledermaus by Johan Straus and The Merry Widow by Franz Lehar ( picture
top Right) are wonderful. Lots of chorus work, gypsy dances and regal ball scenes plus
magnificent musical scores to thrill the cast and the audience. The scenery
and costumes alone will bring the house down! I don't mean literally. An excellent Musical
Director and well cast principals will assure you of astounding success!
Reviews and cabaret numbers, adroitly put together,
can provide fun filled evenings. You can have a theme or mix and match.
The choice is yours. These type of shows can be a little difficult for
wardrobe though, as each person could need a few completely different
costumes. The royalties are complicated and the secretary will have
fun unravelling the rules and regulations
I could go on all day, but I won't, you'll be
glad to know!!
